Spring Nickel Mystery
Clue #3

Select 6 light nickels and 6 dark nickels. Draw a diagonal on the back of each light nickel, as shown.

Pair one light nickel with one dark nickel, lining them up with the light nickel on top of the dark nickel, with right sides together. Sew ¼" on either side of the line drawn on the back of the light nickel. Cut on the drawn line to yield two sewn pieces as shown. Repeat for the remaining 5 light/dark pairs. This step will yield 12 sewn units.

Press seam toward the dark fabric, yielding 12 half-square triangle (HST) units as shown. Trim each HST to measure 4½" x 4½".

Select 6 more light nickels and cut into quarters. This will yield 24 light squares 2½" x 2½".
