Clue #5

Download paper piecing templates C and D (PDF file), and print 4 copies of each template.

Of course, you don't need to use the paper piecing templates, you can sew the pieces together and trim to size. I've personally found that oblong triangles like these can be tricky to work with, which might make the paper piecing route easier. It's all up to you! :)

From your light blue fabric, cut 4 pieces 12" x 4". Cut two along one diagonal, and cut the other two along the other diagonal, as indicated below. You will have two sets of triangles, with 4 triangles in each set.

From your green fabric, cut 4 pieces 12" x 4". Cut two along one diagonal, and cut the other two along the other diagonal, as indicated below. You will have two sets of triangles, with 4 triangles in each set.

Using the paper piecing templates and the pieces you just cut, sew 4 of Template C and 4 of Template D. Trim as necessary, leaving a ¼" seam allowance. Your trimmed pieces should measure 10½" x 2½".

From your green fabric, cut 4 pieces 2½" x 2½".

Pair up one of the green squares you just cut with the matching Template C piece you just made. Sew together as indicated.

Pair up one of the Partial Block Units you made in Clue #4 with the matching Template D piece you just made. Sew together as indicated.

Sew these two units together as shown. You should have 4 Tulip Nine Patch Blocks, one in each of your light/dark Spring Fabric combinations, at the end of this clue. (Thanks Marcia, for letting me use this block in my Mystery!!)

That's all for clue #5! Stay tuned for the final clue...
